Robinson paces Storm with fifth place finish at Cornell

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa — Noah Robinson took fifth place at 184 pounds and RJ Brown finished 8th at 165 to lead the Simpson wrestling team at Cornell's Matman Invitational on Saturday.

Robinson went 4-1 at 184 pounds, getting decisions over Bryce Fisher of Grand View and a major decision over Chris Nielson of Dubuque to advance to the fifth-place match. Robinson battled for a 10-8 decision over Ira Kuehn of Luther to earn the Storm's top placement of the day.

He has placed reached the podium in every meet the season and is 16-7 in tournament competition this season.

Brown went 4-2 at 165 pounds, responding from an opening-round loss with a technical fall over Devin Drier of Wisconsin-Platteville. He pinned Platteville's Carter Barkema before beating Shane Vaughan (Buena Vista) 9-5 and Josh Smith (Stevens Inst. of Technology) 12-2. He lost to Wartburg's Jacob Krakow in the consolation semis before taking a medical forfeit in the eighth-place match.

DeVaughn Scott (197), Sam Mathis (197) and Damon Piatt (285) all went 2-2 for the Storm.
