Berkland leads Storm to second at own invitational

INDIANOLA, Iowa — Kelsa Berkland carded an 85 and the Simpson women's golf team placed second of five teams at its own spring invitational from Deer Run Golf Course on Thursday.

Simpson shot 364 as a team, 28 shots behind team champion William Penn. Coe (379), Grand View (404) and Iowa Wesleyan (472) rounded out the team scores. 

Berkland made seven pars on the day to lead the Storm, shooting her best round of the spring season. She finished eight strokes behind medalist Megan Rhoads of William Penn, who carded a 5-over 77.

Haley Booton and Lydia Martin turned in top-10 finishes. Booton shot a 90 to finish alone in eighth place and Martin carded a 91 to tie for ninth. 

Competing as an individual, Cassady Carmichael finished in a tie for 13th (95). Madison Hance and Kelsey Poppe tied for 18th after shooting 98 and Lexi Wagner placed 21st with a 99.

Simpson closes the season at the William Penn Invitaitonal in Oskaloosa on Monday and Tuesday, April 17-18.
