Women's basketball cracks top 10
INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Simpson women's basketball team cracked the top 10 in the USA TODAY Sports Top 25 Coaches' Poll this past week, moving up one spot to No. 10.
The Storm – 16-1 when the poll was released on Jan. 22 – started the season unranked before earning its best ranking since Feb. 2, 2009, when Simpson ascended to No. 9.
Simpson (17-1, 7-0 Iowa Conference) held steady at No. 14 in the D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll.
Head coach Brian Niemuth's squad closes the week with a rematch against Coe on Saturday in Cedar Rapids. The two teams played Monday, with Simpson taking a 58-56 decision from the Kohawks (11-7, 4-3), who were picked to win the Iowa Conference in the preseason. Simpson and Coe have won at least a share of the last five conference titles.
