INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Simpson women's basketball team will take part in the national "We Back Pat" initiative when it takes the floor against Coe on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at Cowles Fieldhouse.
"We Back Pat" is an initiative focused on bringing awareness and recognition to the Pat Summitt Foundation Fund and its fight against Alzheimer's disease.
Both teams will sport "We Back Pat" shooting shirts, with a limited number available for purchase at the game. "We Back Pat" reminder wristbands will also be available for sale during the game. Information tables and raffle/auction items will also be present to help bring awareness and raise money for the Pat Summitt Foundation Fund.
The game, which features the top two teams in the Iowa Conference, will air regionally on KCRG TV-9 and online at kcrg.com. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
About Pat Summitt and The Pat Summitt Fund
Pat Summitt has served as the head women's basketball coach at the University of Tennessee for 38 years and has accumulated more than 1,000 career wins. Her coaching highlights include 8 NCAA National Championships, 15 SEC Championships, 29 NCAA Tournament Appearances, and the graduation and success of 159 All-time Lady Vols, including Simpson assistant coach, Elizabeth Curry.
On August 22, 2011, Summitt revealed that she had been diagnosed with early onset dementia, "Alzheimer's Type" by the doctors at the Mayo Clinic. Just like every other opponent she has encountered over her career, Summitt developed a game plan against the disease including the formation of the Pat Summitt Foundation Fund.
Pat Summitt and her supporters have entrusted The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee to facilitate the charitable work of The Pat Summitt Foundation Fund. The Fund was established to support Pat Summitt's dream of finding a cure for Alzheimer's disease.
The Pat Summitt Foundation Fund believes no family should hear a diagnosis like Pat's: early onset dementia, Alzheimer's type. The fund will make grants to non-profits that provide:
