CLERMONT, Fla. -- After only scoring eight runs in two games on Sunday, the Simpson softball team exploded for 15 runs in a 15-0 win over Pittsburgh Greensburg on Monday. The Storm lost 6-1 to Stockton in the afternoon matchup.
Simpson sits at 4-4 at the halfway mark of the PFX Spring Games. With a day off tomorrow, the Storm return back to the diamond on Wednesday against Geneva at 8:15 a.m. (CT) and Roger Williams at 10:30 a.m. (CT) to follow.
Simpson 15, Pitt.-Greensburg 0 (five innings)
Coming out of the gate in the bottom of the first, the Storm plated seven runs. Megan Crockett drove in the first run of contest and was hit in Arianna Kim. Simpson scored a run on a passed ball and another on a wild pitch and tallied three hits in the inning and forced three errors on the Bobcats (3-1).
In the third, the Storm put six more runs on the board. Brynna Bowman had an RBI single. Pittsburgh Greensburg committed three more errors in the inning and gave up four hits to expand the deficit.
Sara Trent smoked a two-run single to make it 15-0 in the fourth.
Emily Bell started the game inside the circle and had two innings of work for her third win of the season. She allowed three hits and struck out two batters. Brooke Fonley finished the final three innings and gave up three hits.
Stockton 6, Simpson 1
Simpson captured a quick 1-0 lead in the second inning after Kayla Reusche led the frame off with a single and Madi Bennett followed with a single. Mary Leopold walked and then all three advanced on a wild pitch to tally the game's first run.
In the top of the fourth, Stockton (2-1) pushed four runs across to take the lead. The Storm's defense had two miscues to help the visitors keep the inning alive. The Ospreys scored two more in the top of the seventh to gain some more breathing room.
