INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Simpson softball player Ashley Allen has been named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District 8® Softball First Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Twelve players were named to the District 8 Team, which includes student-athletes attending NCAA Division III institutions in 21 states and Canada. As a first team selection, Allen advances to the Academic All-America Team ballot.
A junior catcher from Laurel, Iowa, Allen academic honor for the first time in her career. The hard-hitting right-hander earned honorable mention All-Iowa Conference honors after hitting .393 with a school record-tying 18 doubles, one home run and 30 RBIs. Allen carries a 3.90 GPA as a sports administration major.
Allen is Simpson's first Academic All-District Softball player since fellow catcher Tori Haag in 2015.
The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. First-team Google Cloud Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® Team ballot, with first- and second-team Academic All-America honorees to be announced in June.
