Storm set two school records on day two of Liberal Arts

DECORAH, Iowa -- Noah Nelson broke his own school record in the 500 freestyle and swam the second leg on the the record-setting 400 medley relay team to highlight the Simpson men's swimming and diving team through the first two days of the Liberal Arts Championships.

Simpson is in eighth-place with 84 points through the first 14 events. The competition continues Friday with the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, 200 medley relay and men's 3-meter diving. Prelims begin at 10 a.m. with finals getting underway at 6 p.m.

Highlights
• Nelson easily topped his previous mark in the 500 free, finishing in 4:49.75 to place 10th. His previous mark was 4:52.48 set at the Grinnell Pioneer Classic in early December.
• Nelson helped the Storm set a second school record on the night in the 400 medley relay. He teammed up with Nick Keller, Ryan Gaumer and Noah Bruns to finish in 3:41.63, good for seventh place. The previous record (3:42.62) was set at last year's Liberal Arts Championships.
• Gaumer and Keller each swam season-bests in the 50 freestyle. Gaumer (22.35) placed 13th and Keller (22.42) took 14th.
