Nelson breaks two more records in Storm’s dual with Coe

INDIANOLA, Iowa — Noah Nelson continued his assault on the school record book and the Simpson men's swimming and diving team won five events in the home opener against Coe on Friday night at the Indianola YMCA.

Coe won the dual 112-83.

Nelson broke twoschool records on the night, giving him five in just two collegiate meets. The freshman from Tulsa, Okla. reset Simpson's marks in the 200 and 500 freestyle, taking second in the 200 and winning the 500. He swam 1:47.88 in the 200 free to break the mark of 1:50.20 set by Cody Carlson in 2014-15 and cruised to the finish in 4:53.47 in the 500 free, crushing the oldest Simpson record in the books. The previous mark was held by Stephen Schmidt, who swam 5:05.00 in 2011-12.

Nelson teamed up with Nick Keller, James McKee and Ryan Gaumer to win the the 400 medley relay in 3:49.16, the fourth-fastest time in school history.

Keller joined Nelson with two wins on the night by taking first in the 100 backstroke, touching in 56.37.

Noah Bruns won the 50 freestyle in 22.76 and Mason Remington gave the Storm their fifth win of the night, taking gold in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.34).
