INDIANOLA, Iowa — For the third time in as many years, the Simpson men's soccer team has an Academic All-American on its roster. This time around it's Garrett Pochop.
Pochop earned a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team for the 2016 season, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America. A junior forward from Pierre, S.D., Pochop adds to his growing list of accomplishments by becoming Simpson's second straight First Team Academic All-American.
The 2016 Iowa Conference MVP, Pochop carries a 3.95 cumulative grade point average in economics. He finished the season fourth in the nation with 22 goals scored, a school single-season record. He had 51 points, good for sixth in Division III.
Pochop becomes the third Academic All-American in program history, joining former teammate Louis Joslyn as the only first team picks. Joslyn earned second team honors in 2014 and first team honors in 2015.
