Men's golf in third after first round at Wartburg

WAVERLY, Iowa – Led by Conner Juilfs and Trent Lindenman, Simpson sits in third place and just five strokes out of first after the first day of the Wartburg Spring Invitational from Centennial Oaks Golf Club.

The Storm shot 304 on the 6,614-yard layout, behind only Mount Mercy and Central. Mount Mercy leads the tournament after shooting 299 and Central is two strokes off the pace at 301.

Juilfs and Lindenman each carded a 2-over 74, putting them in a five-way tie for fifth in the 95-man tournament. The duo is three strokes behind leader Adam Squires of Central, who finished the day at 1-under 71.

Shaan Desai and Andy Hutchins each shot 6-over 78, tied for 23rd. Nathan Molstead is tied for 36th (79) and Jimmy Siebert is tied for 67th (84).

The tournament concludes Saturday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
