Storm in seventh after IIAC first round

IOWA CITY, Iowa - James Montgomery and Matt Spaulding each carded an 8-over 80 and Simpson finished the first round of the Iowa Conference Men's Golf Championship in seventh place Friday at Finkbine Golf Course.

Buena Vista and Central lead the event, as each team shot a 308. Luther is third (314), followed by Wartburg (317), Loras (321), Coe (323), Simpson (330), Dubuque (340) and Cornell (384).

Play was suspended for a period of time when rain hit the Iowa City area.

Montgomery (Knoxville, Iowa/Knoxville) and Spaulding (Fonda, Iowa/Newell Fonda) sit in a tie for 15th on the leaderboard. Round two of the four-round tournament is scheduled to begin Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
