Swain named IIAC Athlete of the Week

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Simpson men's basketball player Charles Swain earned Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week and Basketball Player of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, Dec. 23, the league office announced Monday.

Swain, a sophomore guard from Austin, Texas, averaged 22.5 points and made 7 of 12 3-pointers in Simpson losses to Whitman (91-86) and No. 11 Whitworth (77-69).

Against Whitman, he scored 31 points on 11-of-22 shooting, setting a career-high and totaling the most points by any Simpson player since Tim Dunlavy scored 37 in the season finale of the 2009-2010 season. During the week, Swain also added five rebounds, seven assists and two steals.

Swain and the Storm will go into 2013 with a 4-7 record. The Iowa Conference slate begins on Jan. 5 when Simpson travels to Storm Lake to take on Buena Vista in a 4 p.m. tipoff.
