INDIANOLA, Iowa — Simpson first baseman Hunter Hillygus was named Honorable Mention All-Iowa Conference for the 2017 season following a vote of the league's coaches, as announced by the league office earlier this month.
A senior from Marshalltown, Iowa, Hillygus enjoyed a career-year for the Storm, hitting a team-high .336 on the season. He led the team with eight doubles and was second with 14 RBIs to go along with one home run. The Northern Iowa transfer closed his career with a .308 average in three seasons.
The Storm and first-year head coach Nathan Roling went 7-29 overall and 4-20 in the Iowa Conference. Simpson closed the season with a walk-off 4-3 win over Central.
Wartburg's Jacob Thumann and Taylor Gilson were named Iowa Conference Position Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively. Dubuque's Paul Wyczawski took home Coach of the Year honors.
