Dorff (Urbandale, Iowa) held Cornell to four hits, striking out seven in his third complete-game of the season. With the win, the Storm (18-8, 11-3 Iowa Conference) complete the three-game sweep of Cornell, improve to 7-0 at home and remain atop the Iowa Conference standings.
Leading 1-0 in the fifth, Ethan Hale (Clive, Iowa) and Tyler Crandell (Ames, Iowa) hit back-to-back triples, giving Simpson a 2-0 lead. Johnson (West Des Moines, Iowa) singled up the middle in the next at-bat, scoring Crandell and giving Dorff a comfortable three-run cushion.
Dorff (5-2) retired the Rams (3-16, 1-11) in order through the first three innings. Cornell got its first baserunner in the fourth and had a chance to score in the same inning, but the centerfielder Crandell gunned down Charlie Muir at the plate, preserving the shutout.
Justin Brown (1-3) took the loss for Cornell, allowing four runs - two earned - off 11 hits. The Cornell defense committed three errors on the day.
Johnson, Justin Svehla (Lincoln, Neb.), Grant Thomas (Indianola, Iowa) and Brad Agan (Knoxville, Iowa) all collected two hits. Crandell had an RBI and Agan scored the game's first run in the second after stealing third and coming home on a throwing error by the catcher.
Simpson returns to action Tuesday, April 19 when it hosts Grinnell in a non-conference contest. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. at McBride Field.
