12 student-athletes named academic all-conference

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Simpson placed 12 student-athletes competing in winter sports on the 2011-12 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) All-Academic Team.

To be eligible for IIAC All-Academic Team honors a student-athlete must compete at the varsity level, be at least a sophomore in academic standing and attain a 3.5 or better grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).

The women's basketball team led the way with seven honorees, followed by men's basketball (2), women's swimming (2) and wrestling (1).

Wartburg placed a conference-high 13 student-athletes on the team, followed by Simpson, Coe (10), Loras (9), Luther (9), Buena Vista (8), Central (8), Dubuque (8) and Cornell (6).
